threshold session 3 in the pool this morning. Reduced number of sets in main set to 15 times 100m. increased rest time between sets and increased intensity of each set. Was hard but went well. Ben williams in the pool was going well. Then the mighty DJ turned up. Now, you can say what you like about DJ but he’s alright.

The pool heater was broken again and it was a bit chilli. As DJ eased himself into the pool ,legs , slowly to the waist he croaks ‘my nads are small enough at the best of times and this ain’t helping’ Comedy gold once again from our kid.

DJ and i have a bit of a rivalry , thats no secret. So far he has come out on top. He has beaten me in the last 2 IM Wales. The first time convincingly. The second was close 4 mins….ouch.Very strong runner and has pipped me on the bike too. One of the reasons i like DJ is he has that god given knack , as i have, of saying something and it coming out completely wrong. I can say to someone ‘well done, thats brilliant’ and it comes out as ‘ i hope you die soon, your mums a whore’

An example of which was in IM Wales 2013. I had had 2 punctures in the first 20 mile of the bike and up waltzs DJ dancing on the pedals .Beaming like a little ray of sunshine. Like a little lamb in spring time. ‘How was your swim’ he asks. ‘5mins slower than last year ‘ i reply( which reminds me i need to speak to 2XU about that new wetsuit, guaranteed…GUARANTEED it said to make you swim faster). ‘those swimming lessons with ollie were a waste of time’ was his retort.

Now, i clearly wasn’t in the mood for this, you cheeky bugger i thought. Then he was gone. Which tells its own story i suppose. I never ,once saw him on the run. I had no idea i was catching him. Still its good racing and i enjoy it. Its a shame, it’d would have been fun for DJ and i to hit the red carpet together. Mad dash up the finishing chute for first pembs man home . ( this is only courtesy of Ollie Simon who has been injured last 2 seasons who would beat the pair of us by at least an hour plus and he’s good looking and nice ….makes you sick doesn’t it?)

Friday evening and you will find me in my usual mental spot, trying to justify not going for a run.I hate running it became obsolete when we started riding horses. Out i go, it is after all a nice night. Longish easy run down to stack rocks, onto St Govans Chapel then broad haven beach , across to the lilly ponds to Bosherston the quarry then home via St Twynells. I wasn’t exactly burning up the course but it was ok. Was flirting all the way with low blood sugar , just didn’t have enough jelly babies and there was a chinese take away waiting at home. So 13 miles all told.

Saturday and back to business as usual. Rain and medium to strong winds from the east. Legs heavy from last nights run. On the road for 7 . For a quick Tempo ride.Did the Angle loop then back to Pembroke where met Rob and Escobar. They were out for a long one. So we had different plans for the day. Left them a few miles later.Headed to St Flo, S/foot, Tenby back to Pembroke then along cmartin flats and home. Bumped into Jon and Deb Phillips who were out getting a few miles in. Took me a while to catch them too . They were moving along. By this time i think we were all wet and its still quite cold out there. Was Glad to finish. 47 miles average speed 17.8 mph. .Will settle for that.

Longer Slow one tomorrow.
