House full all weekend up at the camp so loads of work to do. No days off for me.
Drove up in the morning from mums. Looked like an ok day. New disc and tri spoke to test.
Rocked up at the carpark and all the boys were there. Rob collins, Escobar and ollie.
Rhys has pulled out mainly cos he is a wanker.
My main objective today is not to get caught by Ollie for 7 mins.
Shane and rob have an earlier start so are well into their preparations. Or so you would’ve thought. Shane has driven up in the mystery machine, fully pimped out shag wagon in ….difficult to describe what colour this vehicle is. Like a cat sick green.seasick green? Anyway there’s a regular little rave going on in that end of the car park in escobars t5. Shane dutifully appears and is quite a sight. Churning out the gurning . Fully loaded up on 3 caffeine pills and struggling to hold it all together. He wasn’t blinking at all
Rob is, alas a different story. He’s double dropped twins and a few caffeine gels to boot. Clean off it.
He left the warm up area on someone elses bike ,skin suit on back to front and only one shoe, which was on the wrong foot. Incapable of any form of audible communication at the finish he could barely manage rudimentary hand signals . Co ordination of any of his gangly limbs was out of the question. We had to carry him back to the shag palace. He’ll probably manage to blink by monday, sleep maybe wednesday.
At this point i thought i had seen it all. Then king daddio Escobar rocks up in what can only be described as a fluro 80’s Parisian ski outfit. Who is this boys tailor? I can only assume Escobar is colour blind. He proudly announces the jacket was a tenner from carew market. Seen em online for 220.
Is it a fake was robs only intelligible contribution to the conversation ,which was ,by now spiralling out of control. We felt this contribution was unworthy of any form of comment and we glossed over it.Not that Rob noticed as he was now back busy playing with his fingers and making gurgling noises.
To be fair. only an individual of shanes calibre could carry this look off. And he did…with aplomb!!
kieron won it ,ollie third me 7th. We won the team prize and without any adherence to any sort of social ettiquette i shamelessly pushed ollie and kieron out the way to claim our prize. This was my moment in the spotlight ,they had already been up there.i relished and basked in the glory for the whole 3 to 4 seconds. The room ,however was deathly silent. It seems they took a dim view of my scramble to make the podium. As ,on the way, i had knocked rob ,who was oblivious anyway, out of his wheelchair.ffs
Kieron did 1 hr 3 something, ollie 1 hour 8? me 1 hr 12 49? Disc and tri spoke went well.but again never really seemed to get on top of the gears.Power meter average was 30 watts down on what it should’ve been , looking at the times the calibration must’ve been wrong.
As i left escobar was using a defibrallator on Rob who had gone into some sort of caffeine overload shock. I left them to it.
Recovery week next week i think is in order as have the tour of pembs on Saturday.
Monday headed down to nicks on a recovery ride and picked up some q rings to try out. Didn’t feel good at all on the bike. Tuesday had a rest day after a few to drink on monday night.not like me
wednesday made it down to the pool but was struggling and only managed half a mile. In the evening went over to the pembs velo 10mtt to marshall. Was a good turn out. Nigel went well ,even without his power meter working and some good rides put in . Standard is high this year.
