Carten

Triathlon Training Blog, Thursday, May 15th, 2014

up to cardiff on the friday and booked into the b and b was nice. Out for a chinese and went for a beer in some shit pot while waiting. Bumped into Jamie Owen think he’s off the tv. Quite a big fella in real life . Early ish night.

Up early but not mentally early. The wind is howling .On the beak all day and it looks like rain. Boland pops over at 7 ish with the milk and we have a catch up and bimble down to the start. Its busy but a lot have left already. Chat to Ely and a couple of others and we roll out of cardiff. On the tt bike today.Need to get a long ride in on this thing. I’m determined to take it easy today. Bump into Janina and carl and a few other of the aces, slacky and julie etc.

The wind is fierce and then it starts to rain. Had a very sedate ride with little incident. Managed to get into an altercation with a few boys on the forest track in swansea. Seems one of them didn’t like it when i labelled him a dickweed. He had stopped for a piss then as he got back on his bike, without looking he plonked it in the middle of the path.Slam on the anchors. He could’ve taken all of us out. We exchanged pleasantries and promises to keep in touch. More rain . Puncture (slow one) which i couldn’t be bothered to change on the millenium path. Changed it at the burry port feed station.Did i mention rain? Anyway now i dont have a spare. The mechanics there were selling them .I had no cash. Then the mighty ‘ Stoz’ turns up and can’t believe his luck when i ask him for a fiver. He agrees and goes and sorts his stuff out. Q Charlie colman and richard. People are now queuing up to give me a fiver. As previously mentioned Charlie is a legend. He didn’t even ask what the fiver was for. Stoz returns and doesn’t look too dejected when i tell him i have the money.

Had an ok run to carmarthen, went straight up the by pass rejoined the ‘ official ‘course. The bypass ,on reflection was a mistake. Completely exposed to the wind.Which i think i have mentioned and i crawled along there. Busy too. Lot of cars.

Had a nice chat on the climb to red roses then ended up back on the iron man wales route which i stayed on. But went though the tunnels at wisemans.

Finished feeling ok. 6 hours 15 not too bad . average HR 132. So just out of z2 which was what i wanted.

Went for a run off the bike .around 5 miles.Strava playing up. At half way totally went over on my ankle.Down like a sack of shit. I didn’t hear a crunch or a snap. but it was sore.hobbled back to the finish. Had had enough by now and got a lift back to mums in saundersfoot. Forgot i was soaked and had pissed myself a few times again on the bike. Even though this is completely unnecessary on a training ride. I sat in the passenger seat of a newish vw and never mentioned a word.Although i did smell a bit. Ice on the ankle.
Were quite a few people who were looking smug at the finish. Who ‘beat me’ apparently. Hmmmn. Still they did get back to tenby before me but started an hour earlier. Still , good for them, lol

spent the evening with Boland, nic ,seren and aaron in kiln park .Had a few beers. Was good to see him

Sunday.

Can’t walk but have to work on the ecopod with JB. Hobling all day. In the evening ice then hair dryer ice then hair dryer on the ankle. which is now quite swollen. Oh dear

Monday Had an ok pool session ,ankle feels alot better its just blue now. Good turbo session with ollie.VO2 max. 5 sets of 3 mins at 110 per cent ftp. the first 3 i held 300 watts the last two it dropped abit,. Hard session

Tuesday.Finished work early so went for a sea swim in saundersfoot. Very cold .Was in half an hour face melted off again

Had a good tempo run then later out for just under an hour . 7 mins 15 secs per mile.Ankle was okish but very careful with it

wednesday rest day and worked till 9 on the pod.
