here we go like aint it?

Well, its been a while. to summarize. The last Ajax track night a few months ago turned into an epic when the mighty Dan Coleman turned up and smashed everyone, including me out of the Park. I had more of a laugh in that session with Dan and Tom than all the previous sessions put together. So cheers Dan. It was a good night.

There have been some really good rides in the interim period. The Brecon ride in the rain, The track sprint finishes around an icy carmarthen track and the Cavendish episode. Despite all thats gone on that still makes me laugh out loud. Good times.looking after each other.Had some good rides out with Fab on a thursday and jess Hill

I did, as an experiment , a mental 4 week block about 7 weeks ago which was 12 weeks out from the world champs in Motala . It consisted of 4 times 300 to 350 miles a week on the bike, with back to back 100s sat/sun 40 miles of running a week and around 12k of swimming.I did the carmarthen sprint tri on a whim at the end of this 4 week block the week before the tour of pembs. rode up there on my road bike did it and rode home.Got 10th.Swim was way better. 6.46 bike and run average at 19mins something. The ride back was a bridge too far. I stumbled into milton brewery brought a fivers worth of dry roasted peanuts and sat there with a thousand yard stare and ate the fucking lot. Crawled the last 5 miles home. I had a recovery week after that but then raced the tour of pembs where i finished 5th and had a quite public hissy fit. I gave the top everything rode alone for all of it died in the last 1o miles and still got beaten….by a lot. This situation was managed quite well by my contemporaries and we had a good afternoon in the TOP beer garden after wards,Fun afternoon.excellent man management sorely missed.

Anyway , the following 2 weeks fluctuated from despair to where, nothing was working ,swim, shit, bike shiter, run….didnt do any and the experiment came crashing to its knees. I would sit on the veranda of an evening shotgun across my lap taking the odd pot shot at the polish poachers down the river. not to kill just to maim. Quietly smoking crystal meths till the corners of my eyes peel back and wonder where it all went wrong. During these times relationships suffer …badly. as i am unbearable Let me para phrase that.More unbearable than usual. . Things went from bad to worse and sleep patterns became none existent .People got hurt. I was convinced i was nowhere in the racing stakes. Then 2 weeks ago i kinda hedged my bets and did the neyland 10mtt an hour earlier than the race actually started in training gear and wheels. 25mins. Which was much more than i was expecting. My head was still very much in the shed and the build up to the European champs has been far from text book.. Thats what women can do to you. But the results kept coming. The following night i bit the bullet and turned up in full tt gear tri spoke on the front zipp 808 on the back at the Nbcc 10mtt and smashed it. 23.46 which was far better than possibly imagined . Maybe a PB for the redberth course. I went on to do the pembs velo 10mtt last week, again redberth in 23.25 with a disc on the back finished second by 11 secs from Will and beat Nick by one second. Who incidently had put himself off a minute behind me . I was pretty sure he’d catch me .Which he didnt.I was in good company that night. I’ve done no speed work at all this year so where these results are coming from i’m not sure. May be the 4 week block experiment wasn’t a complete loss after all. Find out in a week. The self doubt is still very much there ,confidence has taken a beating .People who matter arent there.
With Italy only a week away. This form could/probably is a combination of alot of things. But one thing worth a mention is a bike fit i had at Cranc in Carmarthen . It was very professionally done and coincided with this speed i have found and must surely be a contributory factor. The felt was like a new bike and a few small touches to the tt bike and boom!!I’m not on the payroll btw and i didnt get it for free or even discounted but good service is hard to find and deserves a mention
