Pembrokeshire Triathlon Camp
Triathlon Training Blog, Saturday, March 1st, 2014up at 5.45 which is great. Fed those damn pigs on the road for 6.30. Legs a bit heavy after last nights run. Drank 2 litres before i had even met the boys. Met them at Penally ,Slacky,Nigel, Carl and Eric the viking. Does he have a second name? Reasonable pace to start which i was struggling with a little or certainly wasn’t comfortable.Kept eating and drinking.Down to fresh the angle loop still not feeling great. Back past the camp and did consider calling it a day. Thought i might ride through it. Then on castlemartin straight it was almost like a switch had been clicked. I took the front and boom, back in the room. I think it may have been the boost chocolate bar i had had on the mad mile. Its slightly rippled with a flat underside. Other chocolate bars are available.. Dropped everyone even the mighty Eric. Who is a bit of a mystery. To be fair he has just come back from a week on the piss in the snow. He’s doing IM wales too and is a good runner. Luckily when i first saw him swimming i thought he was drowning but these things change. Flying going up St petrox and then carried on over the top. Hadn’t dropped him by much at maidenwells. 300 metres. Waited at the bottom of St Daniels regrouped. Climbing out of Pembroke i went again. No dropping Eric a second time on the flat but he didn’t take too many turns on the front either. Strong boy.Made a fortune in oil and now pretty much does what he likes. Which is nice.Houses here there and everywhere. I don’t mean Tenby, Penally the dock. I mean meribel, Geneva etc. Like you do. Still hes a likeable chap and although it grieves me to say it he’s a tad stronger than me overall on the bike. He has a pretty cool colnago too. Nice bit of kit. Anyway ,coming down the maudlins into Tenby and its busy. A car driver is indicating to turn left off the mini roundabout is in the left hand lane and then turns right to go up into town. I saw it all.The bonnet surf the crunch as i hit the deck, Austria gone. How i avoided the car i have no idea. It was a season over incident. I’m not one for these sort of things. But it was 20 years ago this week my dad was killed in a similar incident not 2 miles away from this spot.Cheers dad. You couldn’t get the drivers address while u are about it?Ha ha.Still drivers of cars and their steel cages and other road users is well documented . Eric went home. Then Slacky i Nigel . I pushed on back to the camp. Was a nice day and i felt ok. Got caught up behind a tanker going up St Daniels and tucked in behind him. Dont try this at home kids . Held onto him to the top even though it took me well into zone 5. Do i feel guilty about having the KOM time now on strava? Do i fuck. Ha ha.Home via the beach and 88 miles in the bank at 17.1 mph. Not a bad mornings work. Got about 40 miles in at Tempo mixing it up with Eric and the ride home the rest in z2. Weather is bad again tomorrow so not sure about the Daffodil Sportive. May go for a few early before the rain comes in.
