West Wales 100 mtt

On this one a complete turn around on the previous week .I was the only NBCC rider to turn up

The velo were all there I drove up and met up with Ben and heather. Had my new tri suit on to try it out. NBCC one. Wanted an Aces one but there was some mix up in the orders and they hadnt arrived.

As usual got lost to the start but managed to get there in time. As usual I planned to do it at IM race pace and as usual that went out the window after about 60 to 100 metres.

Off we went in a flapping wales top (which fitted last year) down to the second roundabout then all the way back to brecon. I’d forgotten how crap this course was. It was climbing all the way from llandovery to Brecon. Dan coleman was my minute man. That was the last I saw of him. Flew back down to llandovery over taking a touring caravan while another was coming the other way. It was a bit of a squeeze to be honest. From this point on it was a grovel. Hr was up power was down . Hydration ? Or gone out too hard?

Anyway I held it together to the carmarthen roundabout .82 miles.

Now the approach to the roundabout is as such that you cannot see if there is a car coming onto the roundabout nearest you until you are on it. A quick look and decided to go for it.Another glance, car!!!! Slam on the anchors ,back wheel locks up and shreds the tire. 4 inch hole in the back tire. Race over …again. Was a bit gutted. The last 18 were with the wind behind me and I was on to crack 4.20.Oh and another 60 quid tyre gone.

Started to walk. Claire turned up from nowhere all happy and I wasn’t in the mood but had a chat. Ben was in the area and came to pick me up and we cheered Heather on to the finish.

Heather had had a wobble at 65 mile mark where her hr went up to over 200 bpm .It stopped her dead .Luckily not literally. After a few mins it returned to normal and she carried on. Which is probably something we all would’ve done.

Now lets analyze that. Your Heart rate goes inexplicably high, beyond your perceived maximum .you semi collapse by the road side hyper ventilating. 5 mins later you feel okish apart from the cold sweat which is pouring out of you. Yep, carry on. Normal.

Had a good laugh with Paul etc at the finish . A bit pissed off overall. Bit concerned not to get the hundred in as well. As last long ride now before IM Austria . 2 weeks. Oh and I can’t find my passport.
